Katie & Shane

September 10, 2011

Shane and I “accidentally” fell in love. It was one of those nights where all I wanted to do was curl up on the couch and watch a movie, but my girlfriends coaxed me into going out with them. Shane’s fraternity was going to St. Louis for a formal; by chance Shane didn’t have a date, and I was free that weekend (our friends talked us into going with one another). About a week later we loaded up the bus to head to St. Louis and in a few short hours of chatting, we had begun what led to where we are now and the rest is history!

[singlepic id=197 w=320 h=240 float=right]I’ve never been what you would call a “traditional bride.” Of course, there are traditional elements I absolutely adore, but the vision of a little white chapel and a veil has never been my style. I love a hearty mix of vintage-chic, just enough DIY additions and unique personalization to make it your own. Your wedding day is about the bride and groom, so we wanted to make sure everything about our wedding was a reflection of us. From including quirky menu items like in-husk corn on the cob to having cornhole boards during cocktail hour, we wanted to make our guests comfortable while having the venue – Locust Grove in Louisville – hold a uniqueness all its own.

Our wedding day was something we’d been looking forward to for so long; the entire day will forever be burned into my memory. One of my favorite moments however was the first time I “pseudo-saw” Shane. We went the traditional route and did not see each other before the ceremony (which, I am so thankful for looking back). However, the photographer staged a shot where we were able to hold each other’s hands moments before we walked down the aisle. And that very moment made me feel much more at ease and reaffirmed the happiness of what was to come.
