Katy & Jimmy - A Lovely Lexington Wedding
Our story began on July 3rd, 2010. It’s a day I will never forget, because it’s the day that my heart starting beating again. What was supposed to be a quick drink turned into an 8 hour first date and we never looked back.
Over the next year and a half, Jimmy and I fell in love. Though a Kentucky girl to the core, I was living in Cincinnati at the time, and Jimmy visited me every single weekend for the first year of our relationship. His dedication to our relationship astounded me, and I fell more in love with him in each passing day. We shared a love of sports, particularly UK football, UK basketball and NFL Sundays and though on the surface we seemed like opposites, we really helped each other find balance.
Jimmy proposed to me on Sunday, December 11th, 2011 after asking my family for their permission and our wedding planning quickly began. To be honest, the only part of my wedding that I had ever truly dreamed about as a child was having my father walk me down the aisle. Unfortunately, my father passed away from cancer in 2008 and therefore I knew that dream would never be realized. However, we immediately embraced the opportunity to bring our families from all across the country together for a joyous occasion. We wanted an elegant, timeless affair.
When we began our wedding planning, we were absolutely tickled to realize that we could be married on my parent’s wedding anniversary, Saturday, August 11th. My parents had been happily married for 35 years when my father died, and when their own anniversary fell on a Saturday, we jumped at the chance to honor them by marrying on the same day. From there, everything seemed to fall into place. Our church, Mary Queen, was available, as was our dream venue, The Carrick House. Even our dream photographer, Nina Mullins Photography, was available. With only 8 months to plan, we truly felt like we had some divine intervention helping everything work out so perfectly.
Our wedding day was lovely in every way. I had the man of my dreams on my arm and family and friends by our side. I was even able to have my father’s wedding ring sewn into my bridal bouquet, and I felt his love as I walked towards my ‘happily ever after’.
