Ashley & Austin - A Southern Feel At The Arlington Club
At Kentucky Bride, we swoon over sunset kisses and gorgeous tree-lined photographs just as much as the next wedding lover. Ashley and Austin's wedding is a quintessentially Kentucky wedding that perfectly captures the spirit of our "Old Kentucky Home." We're excited to share their story with you, as told by the bride, Ashley.
From the Bride: Austin and I were set up by, surprisingly, his mother, Ernestine. I was working in the physical therapy clinic for her when one Friday afternoon she asked if I was seeing anyone. A little confused at first, I replied "No, I'm not." She proceeded to tell me about her son and asked if it would be okay for her to give him my phone number so we could go get dinner one night. I was hesitant at first, but I agreed. After texting a little over that weekend, we decided to meet for dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings in Richmond to watch my favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, take on the Denver Broncos in the 2012 NFL playoffs.
During our date, we were both pleasantly surprised at how comfortable we were around each other, especially considering it was our first blind date experience. Eight months later on August 6, 2012, Austin popped the big questions in front of Fountain Square in downtown Lexington.
Austin and I both wanted our wedding to be traditional, simple and classy. The hardest part for us was finding a venue for our reception. After searching all over Richmond, we finally came upon The Arlington Club. We quickly fell in love with its distinct southern appeal and knew it was exactly what we were looking for. The easiest part was picking the church for our ceremony. Austin and his family have been members of the Berea Baptist Church for almost 30 years, and a lot of his favorite childhood memories are associated with the church. Therefore, we wanted our wedding ceremony to take place in the church that felt like Austin's second home.
Our wedding couldn't have turned out any more perfectly! Though we loved everything about our wedding, there was one "humorous hiccup..." During our ceremony, my maid of honor accidentally misplaced Austin's wedding band. All of the guests, including Austin and I, thought it was a practical joke! To our relief, the wedding band was found after the ceremony, and were were wed with Austin's college class ring in the mean time. We both agree that the highlight of our day was seeing each other for the first time!
