Josephine + Kevin's Sweet, Southern Wedding

From the Bride: Kevin and I are high school sweethearts, so we had a lot of time to dream up what we wanted our wedding to be like. Our ceremony was by far our favorite part of the day! I walked down the aisle to a hymn that has meant a lot to me throughout my life, Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus. We did a first look so I wasn’t expecting either of us to cry, but we both did! My uncle married us and we recited beautiful vows that we found and put our own twist on! I knew early on that I wanted a vibrant and fun color palette, even down to our pink cake! The florals were one of my favorite aspects of the entire wedding, I loved all the fuchsias, pinks, and peaches we chose against the light blue bridesmaids dresses. We loved our flowers so much we decided to do a petal toss during our recessional after the ceremony, where all our friends showered us with petals as we made our way back down the aisle as husband and wife!

One of our very first dates in high school was to Dad’s Favorites, a local hole in the wall, in Lexington. We’ve continued going there throughout our relationship, so when it came time to decide on what food to serve at our wedding, we wanted our friends and family to have a meal from place that has been so significant to us! It was so special to have our first meal as a married couple be the exact same as a meal from one of our very first dates.

Later on during the reception, after the cake had been served we had a coffee bar/cart for our guests to enjoy into the evening! We are both big coffee people and we were so excited to implement it in such a fun and creative way!

My family has owned a beautiful, Victorian style house in downtown Lexington for years now, used mainly as an Airbnb, but we also have used it for Thanksgiving and family get togethers. I’ve always known that when the time came, I wanted to use it as a getting ready spot for my bridesmaids, mom, and I. It proved to be the perfect spot and I cherish all the memories we made there that morning! One thing that was super important to me for sentimental reasons was to put on my wedding dress and jewelry at the house rather than the venue. I am so glad I did this, now every time I step into the room I got ready in, it takes me back to that morning! In this room I also opened my gift from Kevin. A beautiful bracelet from Created Bracelets with a word he thought and prayed over when thinking about me and our marriage. It was so special to open the bracelet I would get married wearing and find out what word he picked during the getting ready process! I can’t speak about what I wore without talking about my two dresses! Dancing during our reception was so important to me, but I fell in love with a full gown during my dress appointment. So as a compromise I had an outfit change midway through our reception into a more lightweight, BHLDN dress. The best of both worlds!
