Rustic Winery Wedding

We love the bride's bold choice in lip color and how she incorporated the dark, burgundy tones into the rest of her wedding day.

From the bride: From the moment I discovered Pinterest I began planning our wedding (even though we weren't engaged yet)! Also, I've always wanted a September wedding. It's one of my favorite months and the weather is usually perfect for an indoor/outdoor event. I had my heart set on a rustic, but elegant (not country) setting but struggled to find the right location. That was until I learned of Farmer and Frenchman in Henderson, KY; I fell in love with the venue the second I saw it! The winery has a beautiful, recently restored tobacco barn perfect for hosting events. I love the way the sunlight shines between the wood slats of the barn walls and the gorgeous chandeliers which provide the right amount of light to create a romantic ambiance. There is a small vineyard on the property which is surrounded by acres and acres of farmland... and of course, there's WINE! The venue had all the right elements to create our dream wedding!

I love nature so I wanted to incorporate subtle, classy elements of nature into our decor. I knew I wanted NOTHING to do with mason jars, pumpkins or anything you might find at a hoedown (not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just not my style.) To pick colors, I searched for fall wedding colors. I fell in love with Pantone's 2015 color of the year - Marsala! Of course, after choosing that color I found it extremely difficult to find decor in that exact shade so I settled on a deep burgundy. My accent colors were blush, gray and silver. I decided on fresh flowers, specifically Dahlias (my favorite flower and also in season). I also ordered flowers and greenery in bulk to make my own table decorations. I used the greenery to make fresh garland which we draped down the centers of the tables. I spray painted small vases and placed individual stems of flowers in them and scattered them down the center of our tables. Other pieces used for table decor included silver mercury glass, small wooden boxes, and our engagement pictures framed in a variety of frames. (It might be worth mentioning that I love mid-century modern decor so I tried to add subtle touches of that style to our decor.) We rented wine barrels to be used as cocktail tables. We served hoes-d'oeuvres instead of dinner and provided cocktail style seating. This allowed our guests to mingle more easily and prevented a lull in the reception activities and energy! A family friend made all 5 of our wedding cakes which were delicious (we are still getting compliments 4 months later)! Flavors included apple spice cake with caramel buttercream icing, chocolate cake with mocha buttercream icing, red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream icing, lemon cake with raspberry filling and traditional white wedding cake. I'm not a huge fan of icing so we decided on naked cakes! At the end of the reception, we had a sparkler send off which provided awesome photo opportunities.

As far as the ceremony goes, we wanted to get married outside. We also wanted the officiant to be a friend or family member. We ended up asking our friend Jenny to perform the ceremony. I wanted our ceremony to be customized to us so I researched ceremony scripts and traditions and created something special. In order to save time and avoid making our guests wait, we did the majority of our pictures before the ceremony. This included a "first look'. I think this is the most memorable part of the day for me. The look on my husband's face and the feelings of excitement and happiness were overwhelming. I think my husband cried more than I did!
