Kinsey + Dyuce's Louisville Wedding
Some wedding dates are chosen for convenience, while others carry a deeper meaning. Kinsey and Dyuce selected June 29 for a very special reason: it marked the 29th wedding anniversary of Dyuce's parents, Bruce and Donatta. Wanting to celebrate the love story that helped shape their own, the couple honored them throughout the day with a surprise anniversary cake alongside their wedding cake. Following Kinsey and Dyuce's first dance, Bruce and Donatta joined them on the dance floor for a special dance to one of their favorite songs, "Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This" by Rachelle Ferrell and Will Downing.
The ceremony itself was equally meaningful. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear officiated the wedding, a fitting choice given the couple's longstanding connection to the Governor's Office. Kinsey serves as First Lady Britainy Beshear's Chief of Staff and has worked in the Governor's Office for nearly six years, while Dyuce previously worked on the office's communications team. Over the years, the couple had the opportunity to witness the Beshears' partnership firsthand and were inspired by their commitment to family and service. Having Governor Beshear marry them made the beginning of their next chapter even more special.
Perhaps the most meaningful aspect of the day, however, was simply reaching it together. At age five, Kinsey was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a rare bone marrow failure disease that affects the immune system and blood counts. Her parents were told she likely had only weeks to live, yet she has spent more than two decades courageously battling the illness. In addition, Kinsey carries the BRCA1 gene mutation, which significantly increases the risk of breast cancer. Just months before the wedding, she underwent three preventative surgeries, including a double mastectomy, to reduce that risk. Through every challenge, she held onto one goal. "The most important thing I wanted to do in life, no matter how much time I had, was marry Dyuce," she shared.
Less than five months after the wedding, Kinsey experienced a relapse of aplastic anemia. Fortunately, her sister and co-maid of honor, Teagan, was identified as a perfect bone marrow match and immediately volunteered to become her donor. That fall, Kinsey underwent a life-saving bone marrow transplant at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She returned home to Kentucky the day before Thanksgiving, just in time to celebrate the holidays with her husband and family. Throughout years of treatments and hospital stays, Dyuce never left her side—so much so that the nursing staff affectionately gave him the nickname "2" in honor of his unwavering devotion.
The couple's wedding cake was a classic vanilla confection adorned with a heart made of fresh strawberries and baked by Kinsey's 82-year-old Aunt Ann, making it a sweet family contribution to an already meaningful day.
For their first dance, Kinsey and Dyuce chose Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You," a timeless song that perfectly reflected their relationship and the journey they had traveled together.
When it comes to wedding planning advice, Kinsey encourages couples not to get overwhelmed by the process. "I felt paralyzed at the start of wedding planning, overwhelmed by the logistics of hosting a large event and not knowing where to start," she said. The key, she explained, was breaking the planning process into manageable monthly tasks. She also offers one final piece of advice with a laugh: "Pro tip—marry a man who is equally excited about the details and willing to put in the effort to make it happen!"
