Gracie + Brendan's Louisville Wedding

Gracie woke early and peeked out the window, quietly hoping for sunshine—but instead found soft, gray skies. Rather than disappointment, she remembers a sense of calm. “There was something peaceful and romantic about it,” she says. The couple exchanged vows in the chapel at Sacred Heart Academy, the very place her parents were married 31 years before. Walking down the same aisle alongside her father, she felt the weight and beauty of that legacy. “There was something full-circle and deeply emotional about sharing that space with them,” she shares, “like our family’s love stories were all tied together in one place.”

Finding the dress proved to be its own journey. After an exhaustive search, she realized her perfect look didn’t exist—so she created it. The bride paired a high-neck, long-sleeved Anne Barge gown with a Monique Lhuillier jacket, blending timeless elegance with a modern twist. Brendan, a Navy pilot, wore his Navy Whites, a detail that added both meaning and tradition. During the ceremony, a string quartet—accompanied by a surprise horn section—set the tone, while thoughtful Southern touches appeared throughout the day, from magnolia-filled florals to a bourbon-forward bar featuring family favorites. “We tried to make the day full of intention,” she says.

The celebration continued with a grand reception entrance beneath a traditional military sword arch as guests sipped signature cocktails—an Aperol spritz for her and a whiskey sour for him. With family ties to Willett Distillery, the bar was especially well curated, and a Graeter’s ice cream bar quickly became a guest favorite. Music from The Party Feels kept the dance floor alive, creating what she describes as “a true Southern party.” For dessert, the couple served a two-tiered cake—one layer buttermilk with vanilla buttercream, the other chocolate with chocolate ganache and buttercream—before sharing their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night.” As the evening came to a close, guests sent them off with a shower of paper airplanes, a nod to his career, and the newlyweds departed in a vintage Jaguar once owned by her late uncle. “It was the most beautiful, joy-filled day,” she says, “and every detail felt like a reflection of us.”

Looking back, Gracie offers one piece of advice to future brides: “Don’t compare yourself to other brides or weddings. It’s so easy to get caught up in the little things, but the most important part of the day is the love you share with your partner. Focus on that, and create a celebration that reflects your unique bond. That’s what makes the day truly unforgettable.”
